The 14th Addis Chamber International Agricultural and Food Trade Fair, organized by the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, was held from December 7-9, 2023 at the Millennium Hall at Addis Ababa.
At the trade fair, the Ethiopian Trading Businesses Corporation introduced to the visitors the its grain and coffee products, vegetables and fruits, and consumer goods that it offers to the market at affordable prices. Discussions were held on the possibility of creating market linkages with manufacturing companies.
The top executives of the corporation also visited the fair.
Since the establishment of the corporation, Mr. Firdu Ayele, who has been working as an executive in the grain and coffee business sector, and Mr. Kifle Tesfaye, who has served as an executive in the procurement and consulting service sector, resigned from the corporation due to retirement.
The top management of the corporation welcomed them on December 13, 2023 GC at the program they organized at the Global Hotel.
At the ceremony, the CEO of the corporation, Mr. Acha Demisse, congratulated the former executives who left the corporation due to retirement and wished them to spend the rest of their time happily with their families.
In his message, Mr. Firdu Ayele pointed out that the recognition for his contribution in the corporation is not only for him, but for all the members of the current management. He added that the farewell ceremony made me feel that my hard work was worth it.
On his part, Mr. Kfle Tesfaye mentioned that the corporation is the place where he gained knowledge and stated that although he is physically away, he is always with the corporation in spirit.
The Ethiopian Trading Business Corporation donated one million birr to the victims of a fire accident at Jigjiga Mall, the capital of the Somali National Regional Government on November 5, 2023 G.C.
Deputy CEO of the corporation, Mr. Yirgashewa Teshome handed over the support to Engineer Ziad Abdi, the mayor of Jigjiga city and members of the aid collection committee. During the handover ceremony, Mr. Yirgashewa said that the corporation has provided this support to show its solidarity with the people.
The Ethiopian Trading Business Corporation received the recognition for creating a conducive working environment at the end of the 2016 Employer and Worker Conference held from December 4 to 6, 2023 G.C under the theme of "Social Consultation and Higher Productivity for Social Justice" in celebration of the century of Ethiopia becoming a member of the World Labor Organization.
The corporation was recognized as one of the institutions that excelled in this recognition program in which more than 200 private and public development organizations, employers and workers' federations competed for creating favorable working conditions in the agriculture, industry and service sectors.
Mr. Yirgashewa Teshome, Deputy CEO of the Corporation received the award from the Honorable Mrs. Muferihat Kamil, Minister of Labor and Skills. At the award ceremony, the Honorable Minister thanked all the stakeholders who contributed greatly to the creation of a conducive working environment and the development of peaceful industrial relations.
ETBC planned to purchase 3,088,218 quintals of basic products worth 11,051,636,076 Birr from the country in the fiscal year 2022/23 and purchased 2,611,169 quintals worth 9,271,852,684 Birr and achieved 85% of the plan in terms of quantity and 84% in terms of price.
In the last fiscal year, the corporation planned to distribute 3,248,878 quintals of basic products and services worth 12,584,827,585 Birr in the domestic and foreign markets, and distributed 3,993,671 quintals of products and services worth 13,953,579,322 Birr in the domestic and foreign markets. The sales volume is 14 percent higher than the same period sales of the last fiscal year.
Concerning the domestic market, the plan was to provide 3,094,073 quintals of products and services worth Birr 10,795,886,282 and distributed 2,832,037 quintals worth Birr 8,713,617,305 and achieved 92 percent of the plan in terms of quantity and 81 percent in terms of price.
On the other hand, the corporation planned to sell 47,000 quintals of grain, coffee and fruit for 904,975,000 Birr in the foreign market and 633,810 quintals of various grains, pulses, oilseeds, coffee and fruit sold for 2,506,694,885 Birr to international aid organizations and countries, representing 1,349 percent of the plan.
